LAS VEGAS — What started as a charitable
venture of specialty bedding producer Anatomic
Global has emerged as a not-for-profit
organization called the WorldBed Project, which
is showing this week at the Las Vegas Market.
The group is aiming to raise awareness of its
program and seek partners in the home
furnishings industry. It is showing in the
Specialty Sleep Assn. space, World Market Center
C-1350.
Anatomic Global got the project rolling in
January when it began making WorldBeds,
waterproof mattresses, for shipment to Haiti in
the wake of the earthquake there.
While Anatomic Global will remain the group's
major sponsor, WorldBeds has now been
established as an independent entity. It hopes
to engage retailers and industry leaders by
providing a number of ways they can serve people
in need, at home and abroad.
"We have developed the specifications,
manufacturing and logistical program to make
this a viable turnkey operation that can benefit
people in need on local, regional and global
levels," said Laura Castro, chairman and
president of The WorldBed Project.
More than 12,000 WorldBeds have been
delivered to Haiti. The mattresses are made of
memory foam and conventional foam and are
encased in a nylon and vinyl cover. Each can be
rolled up for easy transport.
Information on the project is available
online at
www.WorldBed.org.
